Days 2 and 3

Yesterday (Tuesday, day 2) we officially began teaching kids at Ninos de la Luz! We woke up at 5:30AM, left at 6AM and got to the school around 6:40. At 7, the kids have devitional every morning for about 30 minutes then they go to their classes. We teach English throughout all the grades, but yesterday we had no curriculum so we just reviewed in all the grades. It was really interesting to see the progression of skill level, attentiveness, and maturity from grades 1-5 (the 1st graders had literally no attention span and the 5th graders were basically speaking English to us). All the kids liked us, and we're getting along with our Spanish very well! None of the teachers speak any English, so it's difficult to communicate with them sometimes. Also, the dialect here is pretty hard to understand--even the fluent spanish speakers have trouble with it!

Today (Wednesday) we had our 2nd day at Ninos de la Luz, but instead of teaching, Joe and I sat down for 6 hours and made a whole curriculum for all the grades...serious business! So tomorrow will be our first day of actually teaching new material to the kids.

OH one more thing...yesterday we went swimming in the water on the beach (which was SUPER warm by the way!). It was really refreshing after a long, hot day at the school. After swimming for a little while, my foot grazed across what seemed like just a sharp rock. When I reached in the water to pull it out and check how sharp the "rock" was, I saw that it definitely was NOT a rock...I'll post pictures of the aftermath next. Let's just say it wasn't pretty!

I got a cell phone, and the number is 011-504-9721-8128 but its pretty expensive to use so I'm only going to use it to call locally here.
